Schools

One thing you consistently see in India is kids on the street during schools hours.  Why? Well, good schools are not free in India. Government schools may be difficult to get to if living in a remote village or tribal region and if they are able to get to them, they offer little more than a babysitting service and a free meal ... not an avenue to a better life.  Orphans and members of the lower caste have no funds for education and often one bicycle for an entire village (photo).

Schools within this ministry are very popular.  Just about every available seat in the room is taken all across India.  Through this ministry well over 7000 children are being educated in over 600 schools started by this ministry ... and growing fast.  In some areas there are buildings they can use, however, often school is a hut, porch or yard of a village member (photo).  Through schools relationships are built and then churches are formed.  Schools range from the remote villages of Manipur to the slums of Chennai.  Despite the bleak outlook for these kids and the humble setting for the schools, kids from the slums, remote villages, and tribal regions have not only gone on to get jobs to sustain themselves and their family, but some have made it to higher education (photo).
